Reporter Food: Zeoli’s Modern Italian in Downtown Clawson

Clawson, MI  – As someone whose work revolves around a love for all things local, taking a break from the Reporter Food Column (sponsored by my favorite fast food place White Castle!) during the pandemic has been a challenge.  Watching restaurants close their doors, or struggle to get though with reduced capacities, increased cleaning protocols, and staffing issues has been hard.  I know people are living with various comfort levels in terms of going out and getting carry out, and I’m grateful to be in a place where I am comfortable doing so.  So, I’m happy to be back sharing about local culinary adventures!
One of the place I keep being drawn back to is Zeoli’s Modern Italian at 110 E 14 Mile Road in Downtown Clawson.  Their food always strikes me as high quality and much of it is unique. Plus the seating is comfortably spaced apart, with booths that ensure good conversation even during busier times.  And the patio is open for those who want to eat outside.

A friend and I had a lovely meal recently, sharing appetizers of zucchini chips, and bruschetta made with fresh tomato, garlic olive oil, basil, lemon, and fresh mozzarella.
They opted for a traditional feast, ordering the 14 oz. New York Strip steak served with crispy garlic redskins, broccoli, and Italian zip sauce.
I was in a burger mood, so I had the Marsala Mushroom Burger. This angus beef patty on a grilled roll came topped with a delicious mushroom Marsala sauce, balsamic onions, and melty provolone.  It was fantastic and filling.
I’ve been to Zeoli’s a few times, as well as ordered through DoorDash.  My favorite is still the deep-fried olives .  Other exciting menu options include Tuscan Chicken Ravioli, Spicy Pizza, Caprese Omelet, Zucchini Sandwich, Panchetta Benedict, and Salmon Rissoles.
