Ferndale Library Offering Home Delivery of Books and More
FERNDALE, MI – Ferndale residents who can’t make it to the library can now make arrangements to have library materials transported to their home by staff. Head Reference Librarian and longtime Ferndale resident Ed Burns will be taking the initiative to aid patrons who are homebound, convalescing, or just can’t get to the library. Burns said that the library’s new home delivery service would also be made available to any Ferndale-based parents who aren’t able to leave kids at home unattended or just might prefer to avoid the understandable encumbrance of loading several little ones into the family car for perfunctory errands.
Ferndale staff are able to deliver books (for adults and kids of all ages), audiobooks, movies, music CDs, magazines, jigsaw puzzles, and board games! Patrons requesting this service must be a current resident of Ferndale and have a valid Ferndale Library card in good standing. All requests should be made by phone or email, directly with Ed Burns. : edburnsiii@
Throughout the developing stages of Michigan’s Executive Order to shelter at home, staff worked remotely to assist patrons with reference questions and expand their access to digital resources like eBooks, audiobooks, and databases. Starting June 15, patrons have been able to place holds on physical materials and obtain them through Ferndale’s curbside pickup service. The next stage will assist patrons who are unable to come to the library or experience any difficulties that would otherwise impede their ability to travel.
