Pontiac Teenager Shot While Playing Basketball

SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the 30 block of Bellmore Ln. on a report of shooting in the street involving several subjects at 18:32 hrs. on June 27. As deputies were gathering information at the scene, they were advised by the Sheriff’s Communication Center a shooting victim had just arrived at McLaren Oakland Hospital. Deputies contacted the victim at McLaren Oakland Hospital. The victim told Deputies he was playing basketball in the street when he heard gun shots and felt pain to his side. The victim observed an approximately 28-year-old male, described as a Hispanic, running away. The victim was shot several times in his torso area. The victim was able to drive himself to the hospital.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Deputies secured the scene and found several spent shell casings lying in the street. There was a home in the 30 block of Bellmore Ln. which had several bullet holes in it. The area was canvased by Deputies for victims and witnesses to the incident. Several witnesses were located and transported to the Pontiac Substation to be interviewed. Detectives arrived and began their investigation. An Evidence Technician processed the scene. The victim was taken into surgery and later listed in serious but stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.

SUSPECT: 20-year-old resident of the City of Pontiac
Update: Later in the evening, around midnight, Detectives received information on the suspected shooter and driver of the vehicle. Both suspects were detained at their residence in the 200 block of Edison. A search warrant was executed on the residence where a rifle, ski masks, and ammunition were recovered. The suspect vehicle was also located at the residence and was impounded. The investigation is continuing at this time. The victim is in stable condition. Additional information will be released pending arraignment. No further information is available at this time.
