“Daydreamin’” Film Wins Royal Oak Senior Statewide Award

Royal Oak, MI – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently announced student production award winners, and among them was Royal Oak High School Senior Hannah Frassetto with her short film “Daydreamin’.”
The film, just under three minutes long, features a quintessential love story. Boy meets girl. Boy’s imagination goes optimistic as he waits in line for his tea.
The project was part of Frassetto’s third year Advanced Film Production class. It took a month of planning, about three days to film, and a couple weeks beyond that to edit. The task was to tell a story with only visuals, no dialogue.
“The hardest thing about this project was finding times that worked for everyone to film. It was filmed during our first semester of our senior year, and we all were pretty busy with our schoolwork and part-time jobs. Thankfully, we were able to work around our busy schedules,” she said.
The boy and girl featured in the film are friends of Frassetto’s: Jackson Knisely and Ella Schultz – both also ROHS seniors. The filming happened in Downtown Royal Oak, with the Royal Oak Music Theatre in the background of one scene, and the inside of Goldfish Tea in another.
“The staff at Goldfish Tea were very kind to us while we were filming and did everything they could to help,” Frassetto said. “They also have some great bubble tea, so if you’re ever in the area, you should definitely check them out!”
The award is a great warm-up for what she hopes will be a lifelong profession in film-making. “I am attending Grand Valley State University’s honors college this fall and majoring in film and video production. I think that for me, this is a great profession to go into because I love it! I want to do something that makes me happy and allows me to be creative. Film and Video Production is really a perfect profession for me.”
