Suzanne Heiple Appointed to Short-Term Holly Village Council Seat

Holly, MI – Residents in Holly have a familiar face on Village Council as former councilperson Suzanne Heiple has accepted a short-term appointment to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of councilperson Chris Rankin in May.
Heiple served previously for 6 years, having been appointed in 2012 by then-President Ryan Bladzyk to fill Jesse Lambert’s term. She ran in 2014 and won the election for a 4-year term, and chose not to run in 2018.
She currently works as Deputy Treasurer for Holly Township.
Heiple was asked by Village President Tom McKenney to step in given her previous experience.  “I honestly thought I was done with that part of my life,” she said.  “I learned that Village Council is not an ideal place for a people-pleaser like me. I would have probably said no if anybody but Tom had asked me to consider filling in. I’ve known him and his family my whole life and respect him tremendously.”
“I accepted on the condition that it was understood, clearly understood, that I would not be running for the seat,” Heiple said.
The confirmation took place at the June 9, 2020 council meeting, and Heiple was sworn in earlier this week. The partial term ends with the Nov. 3, 2020 election.
“I think everyone is in a state of transition, and our job is to help each other,” she said. “Just help each other as a community to do the best we can to adjust and adapt to the next chapter.”
