Tree Planting Grants Available for Schools, Communities, Orgs
(ReLeaf Michigan, May 28, 2020)
Need more trees in your community or at your school? Communities, schools and eligible organizations are encouraged to submit proposals by June 15 for public tree planting projects through the annual DTE Energy Foundation Tree planting grant program.
This ongoing partnership between the DTE Energy Foundation, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and ReLeaf Michigan is in its 24th year. Grants are funded by the DTE Energy Foundation and administered by the DNR and ReLeaf Michigan.
Local units of government, nonprofit organizations, tribes, and schools located within the service territory of DTE Energy are eligible to apply. There are $90,000 available in matching grants, up to $4,000.  Tree-planting projects must occur on public property such as parks, road rights-of-way and school grounds and promote the right-tree-right-place message about utility awareness. All grants require a 1-to-1 match, which can be made up of cash contributions or in-kind services, including volunteer labor.
Grant applications must be postmarked by Monday June 15, 2020, and mailed to P.O. Box 30452 Lansing, MI 48909. Award announcements are anticipated in August; projects must be completed by May 31, 2021.
