Oak Park Cancels Some Events, Postpones Others

Oak Park, MI – In light of the COVID-19 public health crisis and Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders limiting non-essential travel and large gatherings, the City of Oak Park announces the following changes to the lineup of spring and summer programs to help keep both residents and staff members safe during this time of uncertainty:
– The Mother Son Dance on May 8 is cancelled;
– The Senior Tea on May 22 is cancelled;
– The Flower Sale on May 24 is cancelled;
– Summer Blast (June 12 to June 14) is cancelled;
– The Oak Park Pool will remain closed throughout the summer;
– The Flower Exchange on June 14 is cancelled;
– The Summer Camp program for children beginning June 15 is cancelled;
– The Oak Park Farmers Market beginning June 24 is postponed until further notice;
– The Summer Concert Series beginning June 25 is postponed until further notice;
– All Independence Day activities are cancelled (5K Race, Parade, and Fun Fest);
– Dog Day at the Pool on August 23 is cancelled;
– All youth and adult sports leagues and tournaments are cancelled through the summer.
Further, the Oak Park Community Center remains closed to the public during this time. Recreation Department staff members are working remotely to answer resident questions, process refunds, and make “sunshine calls” to seniors. The City of Oak Park looks forward to providing residents with exceptional recreation events and programs again as soon as possible, potentially including a celebration in the fall for Oak Park’s 75th anniversary. In the meantime, it is important for all of us to stay home and safe while we get through this unprecedented crisis together.
