Pontiac Council Selects Megan Shramski to Fill District 2 Vacancy

Pontiac, MI – Pontiac City Council voted Tuesday night to appoint Megan Shramski to serve as the District 2 Councilperson, a seat that became vacant with the death of George Williams.
Shramski was appointed with four council members voting in her favor. Council President Kermitt Williams voted for Coleman Yoakum and Councilperson Mary Pietila voted for Brenda Casey-Mitchell.  Other applicants included Laurie Bishop, and Gill Garrett.
According to her application, Shramski is a lifelong resident of District 2 and her family has been in Pontiac for seven generations.
“I have served on numerous city committees.  I am an avid researcher and have served in that capacity through several Mayoral and Council configurations,” she wrote in her cover letter.
She has worked in the medical field as a laboratory assistant, radiologic assistant, and managing an optometry office.  She’s served on the Citizen Subcommittee on Sanitation, the Mater Plan Steering Committee, and is a member of the Pontiac Alliance for Community Empowerment as well as “past member of several grass roots community organizations.”
During the May 5 council meeting, the candidates were briefly interviewed.  Shramski joked about being reserved before stating “I’m aware I have a machine-gun [like] delivery.  I’m tough. And I’m honest.  I have no desire for higher office. I’m just a lifelong District 2 resident and I’ve been fighting for over 20 years. And I just want to continue to fight… There are things that are wrong and somebody has to be the voice of the people who are afraid to speak up.
Shramski is expected to be sworn in and ready to start at the next City Council meeting.
