Inmate in Oakland County Jail Dies of Suicide
(OCSO, March 31, 2020)
Pontiac, MI – A female was found hanging in her cell during normal rounds at 2128 hours on March 28. The inmate was cut down from a towel rack and CPR was initiated. The inmate was transported by Star EMS to McLaren Oakland where they were pronounced deceased at 2202 hours. The inmate had been checked at 2108 hours by a Deputy doing rounds. They were again checked 18 minutes later when the inmate was discovered to be hanging in the cell by a bedsheet. The inmate had not been on any active suicide watch nor indicated they had any suicidal ideations. The inmate was waiting for a court date on a charge of credit card fraud out of 51st District Court. The inmate had been lodged at the Oakland County Jail since March 17th, 2020.
 
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit responded to the jail. The Medical Examiner’s Office assumed custody of the deceased and an autopsy was performed. The cause of death has been ruled as suicide by hanging. The incident remains under investigation.
 
DECEASED INFORMATION:  45 year old female, resident of Waterford Township.
