Deputy Shoots through Windshield, Injuring Teen in Pontiac Traffic Stop

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit is handling the investigation of an officer involved shooting which occurred in the City of Pontiac at approximately 2:07am on March 9.
Deputies were in the area of Bagley and Arthur Avenue to assist another Deputy with a drug-related arrest involving suspected cocaine. It was also believed the suspect had ingested some narcotics.
While in the area, a Deputy conducted a traffic stop for a traffic-related offense on a separate vehicle. At this time, the driver of the vehicle slowed down and then proceeded to flee on foot from the vehicle during the traffic stop.
A second Deputy in a marked patrol car had been parked in the area to assist with the drug-related arrest and proceeded to position his patrol car to block the vehicle from where the suspect fled. As the Deputy exited their patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle moved forward toward the direction of the responding Deputy. The Deputy had drawn their handgun and discharged one shot through the front windshield of the suspect’s vehicle which struck the front seat passenger in the upper right clavicle. The Deputy began rendering aid immediately to the passenger.
The driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene, was unlicensed and took the vehicle without the owner’s permission. The suspect driver is a 15-year-old male resident of the City of Pontiac. The front seat passenger is a 16-year-old female resident of the City of Pontiac. Additionally, there were two females in the rear seat of the vehicle who were not injured during the incident.
The female who was struck by gunfire was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The victim is listed in stable condition.
