Reporter Food: California Club at Whistle Stop Cafe
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 21, 2020)
Pleasant Ridge, MI – The Whistle Stop Cafe is a staple in Pleasant Ridge,  with tasty options for breakfast and lunch.   Since I’d only been there for breakfast (the sunny sunrise), I decided to let a gentleman friend take me there for some sandwiches.
He had the soup and half sandwich special, enjoying the Tuna Melt, which is made with white Albacore tuna on lightly grilled rye bread.  He also had a cabbage soup with a rich tomato broth.
Mine was a full-sized sandwich feast called the California Club.  This came with layers of hand-sliced turkey, tomato, avocado, pepper jack cheese, garlic olive oil, and of course bacon between slices of toasted sesame semolina bread.  I opted for the coleslaw, which was delightfully creamy and crunchy.
Other sandwiches on the menu include the classic grilled cheese, the Cuban, the Reuben, and the House Favorite BLT. There’s also a selection of burgers, salads and breakfast items.
On the weekends there’s a line out the door for this cozy little spot.  There’s also a location in Birmingham at 501 S. Eton Street.  Find out more on the Whistle Stop website.
