Kids and Pets Shine in Annual Birmingham Youth Assistance Dog Show
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 21, 2020)
Beverly Hills, MI- The best looking dog in the Birmingham Youth Assistance 39th annual Kids Dog Show was a tall Great Dane named Izzy who strutted about with her best bud, eight year old Neleh Wiegart who attends Pierce elementary.  She was among dozens of pooches  enjoying Super Bowl Sunday in a family-friendly way – with costumes, tricks, confidence-building and prizes.
The show took place at Berkshire Middle School and included prizes in five categories: Best Costume, Best Trick, Waggiest Tail, Best Looking and Musical Sit.  The show was a warm up to the big game, leaving many pooches and people feeling like winners.
Also on hand was the Southfield Police Department with a police k-9 demonstration, and an instructor from Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club to help teach kids how to teach their furry friends.  Tail-wagging and dancing were made possible by tunes by DJ Music in Motion.
“This fun, kid-centered event has become a popular Superbowl Sunday tradition in the community,” said BYA Chair David Wind. “It is wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm of our outstanding participants.”
Organizers credited sponsors Mike Palmer of Premier Pet Supply, Beverly Hills Veterinary Associates, Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club, Mills Pharmacy, Earthborn Holistic, Fluff & Tuff and Oliver’s Beer Biscuits. BYA is also grateful to Berkshire Middle School for providing the event space, and to Principal Jason Clinkscale for his many years of service as Master of Ceremonies.

The Kids’ Dog Show is one of many family programs sponsored by BYA. Other annual events include Breakfast with Santa, Touch a Truck and the Youth-in-Service appreciation event. These programs and initiatives would not be possible without the generous support of BYA’s municipal and private sponsors.
