Reporter Food: The Oxford Tap
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 18, 2020)
Oxford, MI – Downtown Oxford has many restaurants to try, but I figured I would start with the spot that shares the Village’s name – The Oxford Tap. This Irish bar has plenty of drinks, TVs, and a menu full of bar food for their hungry guests.
I stopped in for a late lunch, and nabbed a window seat looking at the busy downtown. My meal was kind of cheesy – The bacon cheese fries were classic pub fare – waffle fries seasoned and topped with cheese sauce, bacon bits and green onions with sour cream on the side. One of The Oxford Tap’s specialties came recommended by the waiter – The Cheesy Pretzel Burger. This was a half pound patty stuffed with American cheese, cooked to melty perfection, served on a pretzel roll.
Other house specialties include the Five Alarm Burger (with Pepper Jack cheese, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo), the Pulled Pork Po Boy, and the Conley (lean corned beef with Swiss, thin sliced onion and a touch of spicy mustard on a grilled onion roll). In addition to traditional sandwiches and sides, The Oxford Tap specializes in oysters, including garlic Parmesan. For some family-friendly fare there is the Liam & Finn’s Kids Pix section of the menu, and there are salads for those who prefer the green and healthy to the cheesy.
