City of Troy Seeking Applications for Council Vacancy 
Troy, MI – The City of Troy is accepting applications to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Troy City Councilperson of Ed Pennington on Jan. 13.
Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk on or before February 7, 2020 at 12:00 PM (noon).
City Council will review applications, and the top five applicants will be selected at the February 10, 2020 Troy City Council meeting.
The City Council will conduct public interviews and fill the vacancy “by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Council” pursuant to City Charter Section 6.7 at the February 24, 2020, City Council meeting.

Per the City Charter, Filling the vacancy includes the appointment of a successor within 30 days of the vacancy and the subsequent election of a successor on Tuesday, August 4, 2020
Pennington resigned after Council voted not to allow his business – Pennington Collison – to continue doing business with the city due to the a potential for conflict of interest.  Pennington Collison has been repairing city vehicles.  Pennington recused himself from the vote. Five council members said yes, and the Mayor, Ethan Baker, said no.
According to Pennington’s resignation letter “Pennington Collision has been repairing city vehicles on and off for 52 years and will be proud to continue this relationship moving forward.”
