Reporter Food: Col’s Place in Madison Heights
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 30, 2020)
Madison Heights, MI – Col’s Place, at 29022 Stephenson Hwy, Madison Heights has been a community staple since 1990, but in 2019 they had a fire that caused them to close temporarily.
Well the building is done and the cooks are back at grill, serving up favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
A friend and I had breakfast in this newly remodeled space. The warm-toned walls, tall purple ceiling, and eclectic light fixtures give the place a more modern look, and the comfy new booths were perfect for our morning meal adventure.
My friend ordered the Garden Skillet which came with shredded potatoes, spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomatoes and cheese, topped with a pair of eggs (over easy in his case, but you can order them how you’d like). He also devoured a half stack of pancakes.
I opted for an Avocado Scramble which had scrambled eggs, avocado, green pepper, tomatoes, onion and cheddar served with toast. The veggies in both meals were fresh and delicious. I’m not really a big tomato fan, but when paired with the creamy earthy taste of avocados they can be delightful.
Col’s is a family diner with a plethora of menu options. Some interesting breakfast options include breakfast tacos, a Florentine Scramble, turkey sausage and turkey bacon, and the popular kids’ option – the Fun Cake and Bacon. Later in the day guests might enjoy Linguine Carbonara, Saganaki (flaming cheese), Black Russian Sandwich, Patty Melt, or dozens of other choices. They also have the meal that matches the restaurant’s logo – Coney Islands!
