Reporter Food: Red Knapp’s Dairy Bar in Downtown Rochester
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 12, 2020)
Rochester, MI -Red Knapp’s Dairy Bar has been a popular Downtown Rochester diner since 1950.  And it hasn’t changed much since then, with it’s mid-century white exterior, comfy booths with views of downtown, and counter top service on red-topped round stools.
Lovebirds can share a milkshake in a tall glass with two straws, just like couples have been doing there for decades.  The atmosphere is perfect for teens, adults, kids, families, first dates, quick bites, lunches and dinners. Pretty much anybody that likes burgers, sodas, and shakes.
As for me, I totally enjoyed my decadently greasy Mushroom Swiss Burger with chili cheese fries.  I also had a Brown Cow which is a shake made with vanilla ice cream and Barq’s Root Beer.
According to their website, the Red Knapp’s Dairy Bar is owned by the founder’s son Gerald and grandson Miles Knapp.  Visit for yourself at 304 S Main St, Rochester, MI 48307.
