Reporter Food: Duggan’s Irish Pub in Royal Oak
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 6, 2020)
Royal Oak, MI – Duggan’s Irish Pub at 31501 Woodward Ave has been a community staple for decades. It’s hard to miss too, with it’s two story green building just north of 13 Mile on the Southbound side.
A friend and I enjoyed a rainy day lunch on the second floor, with a view of the busy street. Inside the place is packed with memories – from pictures and plaques to items turned into decor – like old gas company signs, barrels made into lights over the pool table, vintage signs and old license plates – so everywhere there is something to see. Televisions are plentiful as well.
My friend had the New Orleans Pasta with jumbo shrimp. I opted for the Broccoli Alfredo Pasta, which is penne pasta, garlic cream sauce, Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, and spicy garlic lime chicken breast. Both were served with broccoli which was a nice healthy addition.
For dessert we split an apple dumpling served with locally-made Ray’s vanilla ice cream. It was all perfect comfort food on a rainy day, and certainly better than the basic bar food one might expect.
Duggan’s has a variety of burgers, pasta, salads, and more. And of course they have some Irish favorites like Chicken Pot Pie, Shepherd’s Pie, and Fish & Chips.
Ray’s Ice Cream dominates the dessert menu, with hot fudge brownie, cream puff, and sundaes to round out a meal. And of course there is a plentiful bar with libations to wash it all down.
