In Separate Cases, Two Train Track Deaths in One Weekend

Royal Oak, Pontiac, MI – This weekend two deaths in SE Oakland County have been reported involving pedestrians who were fatally struck by trains.
In Pontiac, a 59-year-old resident “was struck while crossing the railroad tracks by an approaching Canadian National train that was traveling southbound on the tracks,” according to a report from Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. “The railroad gates were down and working properly at the time of the incident.”
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two crew members aboard the train, who were not injured. The crash occurred at Woodward Ave. and Wilson at 4:12pm on Friday, Dec. 13.
On Dec. 14 at approximately 6:35am a 50 year old man from Warren was fatally struck on the train track near E. Harrison and S. Main Street.
According to Royal Oak Police Sergeant Jacob Theisen, “The initial investigation indicates that a 50-year-old Warren man walked onto the railroad tracks, outside of a designated traffic/pedestrian crossing, in the face of an oncoming Canadian National freight train.
The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld until proper notification to the subject’s family can be made.”
