Woman Crossing Woodward Struck by Vehicle in Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 26, 2019)
Ferndale, MI- Southbound Woodward Avenue was closed for several hours Saturday night as Ferndale Police and Michigan State Police investigated a serious pedestrian injury crash.
Police would not release details as the crash is still under investigation, but did say that a 31-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on the busy roadway. The crash happened at around 7:30pm.
Madison Heights resident John Comstock told Oakland County Times that he saw the woman step into the street from the sidewalk where she was struck by a vehicle in the lane closest to the curb.
“He [the driver] slammed on his breaks, but there was nothing he could do,” he said.
Comstock said he immediately ran into the street to help, talking to the woman who was breathing and blinking, but unable to speak. There were other people around, he said, but only the woman had gone into the street.  He said she was not in the crosswalk.
