Downed Power Lines Spark on Rosewood in Oak Park

Oak Park, MI – Downed power lines sparked in an Oak Park neighborhood Wednesday night.  A tree on Ithaca came down onto the wires leading to a home in the 24000 block of Rosewood.
Oak Park Public Safety quickly set up a perimeter to keep residents safe. As they wait for DTE to turn off the power, the lines sparked until after 10pm, sending crackles and flashes of light that could have started a fire, but thankfully, thus far, have not.  Firefighters stand by, just in case.
Downed power lines are dangerous, not only because of the potential for fire, but for the possibility of electricity traveling through metal objects such as fencing, siding on homes, and plumbing.  DTE cautions people to stay at least 20 feet away from a downed power line and anything it may be in contact with.
