Adult Ed Student Brings Gun to Tri-County Education Center in Royal Oak Twp
(Superintendent Dania H. Bazzi, Ferndale Schools, Oct. 16, 2019)
Royal Oak Township, MI- On Tuesday, a student at the Tri-County Education Center (21131 Garden Ln) brought a gun to school. Thanks to the rapid actions by TCEC staff, the weapon was discovered quickly. The Michigan State Police were immediately contacted and our staff will continue to work with them as they investigate and resolve this legal issue.
We are thankful for the quick and thorough response from our staff and State Police.  This is not who we are or what we teach and, fortunately, the relationships our staff have built with students enabled a fast and safe resolution to this situation.
Safety is always our top priority and it is something that is maintained as a full school community. Please take a moment this evening to talk to your child about the important role they play in maintaining school safety. Please remind them to share information about potentially dangerous situations with an adult that they trust.  If they do not feel like there is someone they can talk to then they can also report concerns anonymously at the state of Michigan’s OK2SAY website.  Together, we will continue to keep all of our schools safe.
Again, we want to thank the outstanding administrators, security team, and staff at the TCEC for quickly addressing this situation without incident or major disruption to the learning process. As this is now an ongoing police matter, it would be inappropriate to share additional details regarding this incident. That said, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
