Oct. 27 – Artist Reception for Jud Coveyou at Ferndale Library

Oct. 27 – Artist Reception for Jud Coveyou at Ferndale Library

The Ferndale Library Art & Exhibitions Committee is proud to present the works of local artist Jud Coveyou, on display October 20 through December 15, with a Reception for patrons to meet the artist on Sunday, October 27 at 2 pm.

Coveyou is a celebrated oils and pastels painter based in Southeast Michigan. He is a native of the Upper Peninsula and retired from teaching at Birmingham Public Schools ten years ago.

He received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He creates vivid portraits of people in their natural environments with muted earth tones and dream-like hazes that evoke the faded but enduring quality of the human memory.

Along with recently showing at the Lawrence Street Art Gallery, Coveyou has also held a residency through the Michigan Watercolor Society at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Coveyou also published a collection of works in 2014, Rotten with Anecdote, as a large, oblong hardcover. The stunning book has color-illustrated covers, 56 glossy pages, gray endpapers, several b/w photos, 100 full-color reproductions of original artworks, with explanatory text (published by Blurb).

Ferndale Library’s Art and Exhibitions Committee’s mission is to promote and foster an appreciation of two and three-dimensional art for library patrons, through exhibits, lectures, and an expanded collection of art books. The exhibitions’ opening reception is on Sunday, October 27, a chance to meet the artist, view the works, enjoy some refreshments and live music.
