Oct. 26 – Ferndale Library Spooktacular

Oct. 26 – Ferndale Library Spooktacular

Ferndale, MI- There are few libraries that have as high of a rate of Halloween-enthusiasm per capita among its staff than Ferndale’s. That’s why they always go all out for their annual Spooktacular events, held on the last weekend of October. Starting at 5 pm on Sat., Oct. 26, the Ferndale Library’s Halloween event will overlap with the city’s Downtown Trick-or-Treat, scheduled to start at 4 pm. In a bit of an old-school mood (in terms of spookiness), the theme, this year, is a classic: “The Haunted Library,” which means ghosts, vampires, and all the classic tropes. There will even be several dedicated staff members dressed up as the Mystery Gang from Scooby-Doo.

This event is for all ages, so it certainly will not be too scary for the littlest of costumed kids. In fact, it shouldn’t be scary at all as the focus will be to foster a classic Halloween house party vibe, with a trick-or-treating trail throughout the library, stopping at candy stations with incognito library staff. There will be cider and donuts served in the vestibule, a photo booth, balloon animals (by The Balloon Meister) in the Community Room, and crafts and games in the Kids Corner.

The library closes at 5pm, but the doors will essentially stay open as things transition, rather suddenly, into a fun “haunted” ambiance. There will be no regular library services between 5-7 pm, (i.e., checking out books, reference questions, issuing library cards, etc), but there will be plenty of candy! The library will not be supplying any bags or buckets for trick-or-treaters, but will welcome costumed kids of all ages to participate in games, crafts, and other activities, as well as trick-or-treating. It is a free event, and no registration is required.
