Reporter Food: Meriwether’s in Southfield
Southfield, MI- A quaint little English-style building that is Meriwether’s restaurant is an oasis in a sea of concrete and skyscrapers, with an air of comfort and class adding to the experience.
A friend and I warmed our tummies up with the restaurant’s signature teacup bread topped with honey-cinnamon butter. They ordered wine and I had a faux-ito made of raspberries, blueberries, mint, lime juice and simple syrup.
For appetizers we tried the Maryland style crab cake, and the almond encrusted brie with peach jam and crostini. Both were delicious.
For the main course I had the slow roasted prime rib, served with smashed redskin potatoes, au jus, and horseradish sour cream. My friend loved the jambalaya with shrimp, muscles, sausage, peppers and tomatoes.
After the meal we realized that the parking lot has a path leading to the Rouge River which runs behind it, connecting to a river walk full of the undersides of roadways overhead, and plenty of nature to see. We happened upon two outside kitties and one skunk in our walk. It was an amazing place to explore and burn off some of those dinner calories.
