Five Apply for Short Term Ferndale Council Seat, Decision Monday
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept 19, 2019)
Ferndale, MI- Five people filled out applications for the Ferndale City Council vacancy left by Dan Martin when he accepted the appointment to the Mayor’s positions.
Applicants are:
Fabrizio Constantini
Linda Flaherty
Julia Music
Douglas Rutley
Sherry Wells
Applicants have the opportunity to speak to Council at the Monday, Sept. 23 meeting, and council is expected to appoint the vacancy following the introductions.  The meeting takes place at Ferndale City Hall beginning at 7pm.
The appointed councilperson will serve until the end of the year.  An election Nov. 5 will determine the next Mayor as well as two full-term council positions and one two-year council position.
In August Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter resigned in order to take the helm as County Executive.  Martin was appointed as Mayor on Sept. 9.
Former Councilperson Melanie Piana, who resigned from Council to run, and Brian Stowowy are the only two contenders for the Mayor position in the Nov. 5 election.
Also on Nov. 5, there are two seats for City Council with a full four-year term. Candidates for that race are Ben Buttolph, Nada Daher, Augusto Flores, Kat Bruner James, and incumbent Councilperson Raylon Leaks-May.
And there is a two year partial term following Piana’s resignation.  Rolanda Kelley, Laura Mikulski, Maryanne Wessels, and Dennis G. Whitttie are vying for that position.  Whittie was appointed to temporarily fill the seat through the end of the year.
