Reporter Food: Asya Middle Eastern Cuisine in Madison Heights
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 18 2019)
Madison Heights, MI- Madison Heights is full of little diners and cafes with food from all over the world. Asya Middle Eastern Cuisine at 31011 John R (at 13 Mile) has a menu rich with options.
A friend and I recently visited and shared an appetizer of grape leaves to start. These were flavorful and thoughtfully presented, with parsley sprinkled over top and slices of pickled veggies on the side.
For the main course I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich – marinated chicken grilled and wrapped with pickles and a garlic sauce wrapped in pita and served with basmati rice. I also had one of their fresh made smoothies made with orange, banana, strawberry, and honey.
My dining companion had a salad topped with grilled chicken that also looked yummy, and healthy.
There are many choices at Asya, including dishes made with chicken, lamb, beef and shrimp. There is house-made hummus, veggie ghallaba, falafel, tabbouleh, and even french fries are among the extensive menu.
