100 People Chip In to Fund Youth Group Sprucing up Regent Park Community
Troy, Detroit, MI – Dom Morelli has been acquainted with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) – Metro Detroit since before its genesis in 2015. He met the director of YWAM’s Australian Team a year prior to the Detroit branch existence and he recognized the integrity of this foundation and was keen on its promotion. “It was an immediate connection for me since the non-profits that I support breathe into the next Generations.”
Morelli presented the 501(c)(3) non-profit, YWAM (pronounced “Y” – WAM) – Metro Detroit, to the philanthropic group, 100 Faithful Friends, at their June 13, 2019 meeting. Despite worthy competition, YWAM-Metro Detroit was chosen, by collecting the most votes, to receive the Friends’ summer contribution of $10,000. The donation will be used to provide much-needed home repairs in the Regent Park community, located in the NE corner of Detroit. YWAM staff reside in and serve this neighborhood. Funds will also assist with the upkeep of a neighborhood basketball court. In keeping with the official motto of Detroit, “Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus,” (“We hope for better things; it shall arise from the ashes.”), better things will arise for the occupants of Regent Park… thanks to the determination of the residents, thanks to the hard work of the YWAMers, and thanks to the resolve of one man who presented their dilemma to a group of people wanting to help. YWAM-Metro Detroit is an ancillary of a global organization. Founded in 1960, YWAM now serves 1,500 locations in 187 countries. Their primary goal is to connect (or, possibly, re-connect) youth with Jesus Christ; through evangelism, training and mercy ministries. More than four million students, short-term volunteers, and staff have served with YWAM since its creation. For more information about the global YWAM, check out their website: https://www.ywam.org/
The next 100 Faithful Friends meeting will be held: Thursday, September 19, 2019, 7:30 pm, at Kensington Church, Room 212, 1825 East Square Lake Road (NW corner of John R and Square Lake Road), Troy, MI 48084.
You are welcome to attend! The Rochester Hills based group is comprised of members from various backgrounds and different walks of life. As an assemblage they share one goal: to make a difference. Launched in June 2015 (same year as YWAM-Metro Detroit!) by Lana Doneth and Steve & Nancy Benedettini, the Friends believe “as a group we have the ability to contribute to the growth of our community in ways that we never before thought possible.” Visit www.100faithfulfriends.org for more information.
