White Ribbons and GoFundMe Page Remember Berkley’s Tyler Wingate

Berkley, MI- Tyler Wingate was 24 years old when a man Wingate had a fender-bender with got out of the vehicle and beat him to death while witnesses looked on and left him alone in the road to die early Monday morning.
Wingate graduated from Berkley High School in 2013, where he was a member of cross-country and football.  He had recently moved to Detroit.
The community of Berkley has been hit hard by the news, and they have rallied together to show support for Wingate’s family and friends.
White ribbons are being tied to trees and homes throughout the community as a show of support for this young man’s family. The City itself is sharing in the outpouring of love, with ribbons on police cars and public trees.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Berkley Mayor Dan Terbrack said. “No parent should ever have to face this type of tragedy. I know the entire community is sending prayers and condolences to the Wingate family.”
Police have identified 23-year-old Lawrence James Davis as the suspect in the fatal beating.
Friends have organized a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help the family with funeral expenses. So far over $40,000 has been raised.
Funeral services are set for 11 am Friday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak. Visitation is 1-8 pm Thursday. The family has set aside 7-8 pm Thursday for friends to share memories.
