Reporter Food: Kravings in Oak Park
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 16, 2019)
Oak Park, MI- at 25270 Greenfield, inside a little shopping center at the corner of Greenfield and the on ramp to I-696, is a kosher deli called Kravings.
Here a friend and I had some delicious sandwiches and good conversations, as this is a busy spot for carryout orders as well as a place to sit and chat. My lunch buddy had the Chazal Burger which was made with pasture-raised beef for both the patty and for the house-made beef bacon. It also had grilled onions, tomato, ranch dressing, and spicy mayo on a Jalapeno Challah bun. Chazal refers to a group of Sages whose timeless advice is still revered by those of the Jewish faith.
One tradition that I personally love, is that of enjoying a good Reuben sandwich. Nice thick slices of corned beef, topped with tangy sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing on grilled rye bread. Absolutely wonderful. Plus it came with a side of cole slaw. And it was served on deli paper that was printed to look like newspapers, which is a touch that I like for Reporter Food.
I also decided to get some Hungarian Vegetable Soup which had a delicious rich broth, some veggies and little dumplings called leves galuska.
The deli counter at Kravings is full of kosher items to keep customers from having to cook, while the grill offers hot and tasty options. Among the items on the menu are the black bean quinoa burger, chicken schnitzel sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, tuna sandwich, and beef hot dogs. They also have sushi.
This was an all-around delicious meal and a great lunch. We even made a new friend, who gave us suggestions for even more great restaurants to try!
