Rochester School Board Picks Scott Muska to Fill School Board Vacancy

Rochester, MI – Scott Muska was unanimously selected by the Board of Education of the Rochester Community School District to fill the vacant trustee position during the July 15 board meeting. Muska’s service began immediately following the Oath of Office. The term for his position will continue through December 31, 2020.
“We are pleased to welcome Scott on the board. Scott’s ‘seek to understand’ philosophy is so important in this role and something that we appreciate in a colleague. He is a big-picture visionary and a humble team player with board/committee experience. I envision his connections with the business community and his work with the young entrepreneurs in Detroit also being invaluable to our district,” said Board President Kristin Bull.
Muska is a business owner and investor who has spent most of his career in business development and operations. He is also a professional speaker and a former college and professional basketball assistant coach. He and his wife, Barbara, live in Rochester with their 3-year-old daughter.
“It’s a blessing to be able to serve on the Board of Education. I’m excited to make a difference in our school community,” said Muska.
Muska fills the seat vacated by Dr. Sandy Fiaschetti who recently relocated to California because of a career opportunity.
The Board of Education followed the Revised School Code and Michigan Election Law in appointing an eligible candidate to fill the trustee position. Eight candidates interviewed at the board meeting. Two individuals were then invited to return for a second interview before the selection was made.
During the meeting, board members took the opportunity to thank the candidates for their interest in public service and willingness to dedicate their time and talents for the good of the school district.
“We thank all the candidates for putting themselves out there. I hope that they’ll take the passion that they have for this opportunity and apply it to helping the district in other ways,” said Board Treasurer Michael Zabat.
Current positions and terms of service include:  President Kristin Bull (2020), Vice President Kevin Beers (2022), Treasurer Mike Zabat (2020), Secretary Barb Anness (2024), Trustee Michelle Bueltel (2024), Trustee Scott Muska (2020), and Trustee Andrea Walker-Leidy (2024).
