Reporter Food: Latido at Joebar
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 30, 2019)
Hazel Park, MI- The name Latido means “heartbeat,” and the Latin American-inspired restaurant that calls Joebar home has the spice to get one’s blood pumping, and the heart to keep the Hazel Park hot-spot hopping.
A friend and I had a lovely evening there, enjoying the national food of Peru – ceviche.
Crevice is fish that has been cured using an acidic juice such as lemon or lime.
The Ceviche de Vieiras is made with meaty little scallops marinated in coconut, mango, cilantro, and red onion and served with plantain chips.  The Ceviche de Atun is cubes of tuna swimming in citrus, cilantro, red onion, and fresno chili, also with plantain chips.
Both were experiences in flavor, with salty, sweet, and tangy in every meaty bite. The dish is served cold and the liquid left at the bottom is called “leche de tigre,” or milk of the tiger.  I did not drink this because I was already full, but my dinner companion did, and loved it.
Chef de Cuisine Moses Fishman and Executive Chef Michael Barrera have created a menu full of colorful options including Causa de Langosta (lobster potato salad), Brocheta de Camaron (shrimp skewers), and Alitas de Pollo (chicken wings). There is also a Cubano Classico that sounds fantastic.
Latido also has desserts like Suspiro, Peanut Butter Flan, and Helado (ice cream). My friend and I opted for a Caramel Crunch Sundae, made with caramel ice cream, chocolate malt sauce, and a topping of toffee peanuts. Plus, it came with a  pequeño paraguas!
