July 7: Birmingham Concert in the Park – US Army Jazz Ambassadors

BIRMINGHAM, MI -The City of Birmingham is getting ready to welcome the United States Army’s premier touring big band, the Jazz Ambassadors.

Each year the group tours throughout the United States and travels abroad as directed by the Department of the Army, and serves as the liaison between the Army and the American people.

They will perform during the city’s In the Park Summer Concert Series on Sunday, July 7 at 7 p.m. in Shain Park.

Formed in 1969, the 19-piece ensemble has received critical acclaim throughout the United States and abroad. From the big band sounds of the 1940s to the contemporary hits of today, the members of the Jazz Ambassadors present a versatile musical program that has earned them international recognition and appeals to all ages.

Their primary mission is to connect America to its Army through the universal language of music. The band has appeared in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, and throughout Europe.

“The Jazz Ambassadors are celebrating their 50th year and it’s an honor to be part of their touring schedule,” said Birmingham Director of Public Services, Lauren Wood. “We’re excited to invite the community to join us as we to welcome them to Birmingham and enjoy a patriotic concert in celebration of Independence Day.”

Shain Park is located at Merrill and Bates; parking is available at the Chester or Pierce Street Parking Structures (the first two hours are free in all parking structures). During inclement weather, call to check the status of a concert at (248) 530-1650.
