Girls Without Life Jackets Cling to Tree Branch Until Rescue after Raft Sinks Near Holly
INCIDENT:  June 18, 2019 – 18:46 hrs. – Village of Holly, MI – Water Rescue/OCSO Marine Unit Response – #19-116486
SUMMARY:  Marine Deputies and the Village of Holly Fire Department were dispatched to 470 Academy for two juveniles that had fallen into the water while on the Shiawassee River.   The juveniles dialed 911 after their inflatable innertube was punctuated and began to sink.  The juveniles were able to grab hold of a tree branch near the river’s edge to stay afloat until first responders arrived.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  An OCSO Marine Unit and Diver from the OCSO Dive Team responded to the scene.  Prior to their arrival, firefighters were able to locate the juveniles and pull them from the water.   The juveniles were fatigued from the elements but not injured. The juveniles were found not to be wearing lifejackets.  The OCSO Marine Unit will be handling the investigation and follow-up.
