Reporter Food: BBQ Brisket Slider at White Castle
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 16, 2019)
Ferndale, Troy, Pontiac, Southfield, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Farmington Hills, MI – Its Father’s Day and those of you who know me know that White Castle is not only our favorite national sponsor, but a place that is sentimental to me because of my dad.  It was his story that helped us connect with this super fun and delicious, family-owned, burger chain.  So it seems a good day to revisit the Crave once more on our restaurant-cataloguing quest.
As always, the folks at White Castle are switching things up with interesting seasonal selections. Corn nibblers are on the menu, though I did not indulge.  I did, however, devour a pair of BBQ Brisket sliders, topped with a sweet and tangy sauce made by Bull’s Eye, and a layer of crispy fried onions.
Have I tasted better brisket elsewhere?  Of course.  There is nothing like the way a well-cooked brisket gets crispy on the edges and falls apart as it hits one’s lips.
But there’s also nothing in the world of fast food like the way White Castle tries to come up with new, higher-quality, affordable, convenient, interesting options for their customers.
The brisket does knock other sliced meat fast food sandwiches out of the water, and the addition of crispy onions alone makes this slider a feast.  The meat does have some tenderness and texture to it, with nice-sized slices that are big enough to keep the slider stable, but small enough to delight the devouring mouth.  For those who like BBQ but would miss the lip-smacking goodness of an original slider, there is the original slider BBQ option.
Also in for summer are smoothies like the tropical which is made with mango, pineapple, and banana.  There’s also strawberry-banana and strawberry-lemonade.  I am partial to the self-serve beverage machine though, where guests can mix and match from dozens of flavors.  My mix is 3/4 lime flavored sparkling water mixed with 1/4 cherry flavored Sprite.  It’s delicious.
I Googled up a press release about the BBQ sliders, and was glad to see the VP of White Castle shared my sentiment about the brand and it’s boldness.    “At White Castle, we’ve been experimenting with new flavors and slider varieties for nearly 100 years when we first began serving our Original Sliders.  We’re confident that these new, bold barbecue flavors will have our Cravers galloping back for more.”
