Here’s What’s Being Done with $259,000 in Novi Parks Foundation Grants
(Novi Parks Foundation, June 8, 2019)
NOVI, MI – The Novi Parks Foundation is pleased to contribute $259,000 for the replacement of the Tim Pope Memorial Play Structure located at ITC Community Sports Park, funding of the City’s artist-in-residence program at the Villa Barr Art Park, and future development of pickleball courts.
The Tim Pope Memorial Play Structure was constructed in 1997 and has been enjoyed by hundreds of children each year.  The new play structure will be accessible and similar in design as the original with updated materials and features.  The project is anticipated to be complete in late fall 2019.  The contribution by the Foundation will supplement the City’s budget to create unique gathering space in the community.
Started in October 2018, the artist-in-residence program at Villa Barr Art Park continues to gain notoriety.  Applications have been received from around the world to creating art while staying at the park and discovering all Michigan and the Metro Detroit area has to offer.  Each resident is offered a honorarium, funded by the Novi Parks Foundation, and is expected to connect with the Novi community by  working with students, creating art to remain in the City, or hosting educational events at Villa Barr .
Pickleball is a sport growing in popularity, especially in the older adult population.  Since 2009, there has been demand from residents to create pickleball opportunities in Novi.  The foundation’s financial support will assist with the construction of outdoor courts.
“The Novi Parks Foundation works with businesses and residents in the Novi community and beyond to enhance the parks, recreation and cultural services available through the City of Novi.  Through the generosity of donors we are able to assist with recreation and cultural activities engaged in by all ages from youths to seniors.  The Novi Parks Foundation continues to work with the City of Novi to enhance the cultural diversity of programs for all,” said Novi Parks Foundation President David B. Landry.
The Novi Parks Foundation was founded in 2004 and has contributed more than $700,000 to enhance the recreational, educational and cultural life of the Novi community.  Each year the Foundation hosts Pour on the Shore, it’s major fundraiser.  Tickets are on sale now for the August 2, 2019 event.  Visit www.noviparksfoundation.org to learn more.
