Reporter Food: Cork Wine Pub in Pleasant Ridge
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 22, 2019)
Pleasant Ridge, MI- Our culinary adventure continues with a visit to Pleasant Ridge to have dinner at Cork Wine Pub with the Mayor and his wife.
None of us are wine drinkers (I get headaches), but even without the obvious beverage choice Cork was an amazing experience.
Mayor Kurt Metzger, First Lady Jody Metzger, and I peeked into the cozy gathering room full of wine bottles off the main dining room, and marveled at the beauty of the selection. Impressive long wooden tables seemed perfect for meetings and celebrations.
We sat at a high top next to artwork for sale by a local artist, in a room with tall ceilings and super high windows that added just the right amount of sunlight.
The food was fantastic. We even got to meet Chef Gregory Manley who talked about the importance of locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients. He said the menu changes seasonally.
We started out with brussels sprouts made with garlic, and brown butter balsamic. And we had rosemary drop biscuits with lemon herb butter.
For the main course Jodi had the tomato coconut curry, made with potato kofta, sauteed spinach, cilantro, and purple cauliflower.
The Mayor had the cilantro lime chicken salad made with marinated chicken breast, grilled corn, roasted red pepper, jack cheese, and crispy tortilla chips.
I had the fennel dusted salmon, served with honey glazed beets, shaved asparagus (which was beautiful), and fennel cream with fennel pollen.
For dessert we shared a decadent piece of chocolate cake. It was a wonderful meal and a great chance to catch up with the Metzgers and hear more about the great things happening in Pleasant Ridge, a city celebrating their 100th anniversary.
