Reporter Food: Astoria Pastry Shop in Royal Oak

Royal Oak, MI- Astoria Pastry Shop at 320 S Main St in Royal Oak is an essential stop on a foodie tour of Oakland County. Astoria’s first location opened in Greektown in 1971 and the one in Royal Oak has been there for as long as I can remember.
There are cases full of delectable items – danishes, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. I recently stopped in for a treat between meetings and enjoyed the creme brulee. Astoria also serves coffee and tea as well as soft drinks.
There is something wonderful about the crunchy sweet crust of caramelized sugar. It’s such a simple pleasure. As is leisurely enjoying a bite while the bustle of Downtown Royal Oak passes by outside the windows.
