New to You Resale Shop inside St. John’s Episcopal on Woodward Benefits Shoppers and Charities
(Rosemary Spatafora, Get Involved Guide, May 1, 2019)
Royal Oak, MI- Since 1980 the New to You Resale Shop has been operating out of St. John’s Episcopal Church at the corner of Woodward and 11 Mile Road in Royal Oak.
This gem of a resale shop provides low cost clothing and household items to raise money for community outreach programs and charities within the church as well as the greater community. New to You prides itself on its attractive and organized layout where shoppers can find a myriad of items including clothing, jewelry, accessories, collectibles, vintage items, books, household, toys and much more.
With new items arriving constantly it’s always an adventure to shop at New to You. Many customers visit the shop weekly and sometimes daily to snap up the fun finds that are posted at our Facebook page or at Instagram as well as just dropping by to see what’s new.
Dedicated volunteers in the shop are kept busy helping people find just the right item or the perfect gift for someone special. Lively conversations at the check-out counter indicate our customers’ delight in their purchases. These conversations are often punctuated with, “I can’t believe I’m getting it for such a great price!”
The “triple bottom line” principle of People, Planet and Profit fits perfectly into the New to You business model.
We serve the people of our community by offering them low cost, practical and affordable items for purchase in an inviting and hospitable environment. Donors to the shop appreciate that their no longer wanted or used possessions can be recycled for use by someone else and everyone appreciates that profits from the shop are distributed to charities and missions of St. John’s and the greater community.
Some worthy organizations that are supported by funds from New to You include HAVEN, CARE House of Oakland County, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), the Welcome Inn (South Oakland Citizens for the Homeless), Alternatives for Girls, Michigan Coalition for Human Rights, Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan, the Ruth Ellis Center, and many other worthy organizations.
New to You profits also go to support specific missions of St. John’s Episcopal Church like Open Hands Food Pantry, the largest food pantry in Oakland County serving 12,000 to 13,000 people annually.
So, if you’re looking to expand your wardrobe, are setting up an apartment, or just want a unique shopping experience, stop by the New to You Shop and check us out.
