Central Woodward Junior Chamber Connects Young Professionals with Community
(Joannie Zelinski, 2019 Chapter President, Central Woodward Junior Chamber, April 22, 2019)
Berkley, MI – If you’re a young adult age 21 to 40 who would like to become active in the community while having a good time and meeting new people look no further than Central Woodward Junior Chamber (CWJC)! CWJC is a local chapter of Junior Chamber International, an international civic organization. We are young active citizens who are engaged and committed to creating a positive impact in our local communities. Our chapter is full of bright, vibrant, young professionals creating positive change and having fun doing it! Our members (i.e. Jaycees) represent many different career paths and live in Royal Oak, Clawson, Ferndale, Berkley, Oak Park, Madison Heights, and other communities in Oakland County.
Our chapter was established in 2003. Since then, we have been involved in a variety of community projects. Some community projects we have done include a School Supply Drive for Pepper Elementary School in Oak Park, Park Clean Ups at Starr-Jaycee park in Royal Oak, Adopt-A-Family through South Oakland Shelter in Southfield, and a trivia night in collaboration with Geeks Who Drink to raise money for the Animal Welfare Society in Madison Heights. At our School Supply Drive in 2018, we were able to provide over 50 backpacks full of school supplies to students at Pepper Elementary School! If you are interested in seeing one of our upcoming community projects, please consider attending our Hippity Hoppity Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Starr-Jaycee Park.
It may sound like we work hard, but we play hard too! Our members enjoy eating at new restaurants, playing some bar trivia, and hosting game nights. We even organize a themed pub crawl every year in the fall to raise money for a local not-for-profit organization. In 2018, we organized a Thrift Store themed pub crawl and proceeds from the crawl were donated to the Salvation Army in Royal Oak. CWJC is a great way to meet new friends in the area!
Being a part of CWJC is a rewarding experience for each member. Our members are able to network not only with local businesses and community leaders, but also with other Jaycees in the area and around the state, country, and world. Our chapter provides the resources, training, and knowledge to give our members the ability to achieve their personal and professional goals. CWJC builds leaders!
