Reporter Food: Mac and Cheese at Axle Brewing Livernois Tap
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 12, 2019)
Ferndale, MI – In February a friend of mine had their birthday party at Axle Brewing Livernois Tap, which gave me a chance to try some items from their menu.
I don’t know anything about craft beer, but friends who drink it tell me it’s good. And they support community activities like FernCare and Ferndale Pride.  I did have a pretty tasty drink called a Beer-Mosa, made with Jolene and squeezed orange juice.
The Vegan Joe seemed like a nice, healthy choice.  It’s a slider made with lentils with jalapeño and mustard on a potato bun.  I also ordered the mac and cheese – made with a cream-cheese sauce and topped with toasted cheese crackers and fresh chives.
It was a fun evening that gave me a chance to explore a bit. In one corner there’s a place for a DJ, with a cool blue mural providing the perfect background. Past the large dining area are the shiny large vats where like City American Pale Ale, Bloombox, Noble Ghost, Pineapple Ian, and Insufferable Self-Righteous Imperial Stout get made.
Beyond that is an area for local artists to showcase their work.  In February  it was Kelly LeAnne  of Retro Giraffe whose bright, cheerful works graced the wall.  The work is described as “painting and paper craftery” on her website www.RetroGiraffe.com.
