Andy Meisner Announces Run for Oakland County Executive

Ferndale, Huntington Woods, MI – Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner announced today that he is running for Oakland County Executive.  Meisner is the first to make an official announcement regarding the 2020 election.
Meisner is a 45 year old Democrat who lives in Huntington Woods. He was elected to County Treasurer in 2008.  Prior to that he served in the House of Representatives. His mother, Marian McClellan, is the Mayor of Oak Park.
The Rust Belt Market in Downtown Ferndale was packed with supporters for the announcement, with several people speaking praise for the candidate.  Among those who took the stage was Roland Hwang of the Association of Chinese Americans, based in Madison Heights, who said Meisner “has been accessible to the community” and “innovative in his position” as treasurer.
Lori Goldman, founder of Fems for Dems, said “Andy Meisner is the real deal.  Andy Meisner is going to lead with a strong mind and a full heart.”
And his wife, Sara Meisner, said “no matter how busy he is he shows up for his kids and he does it with his trademark enthusiasm.”
Meisner spoke about closing the pay gap between genders, improving public transit, working with neighboring counties to prosper as a region, promoting the county’s diversity, and other progressive policies in his ‘Equity Agenda for Oakland County.’
The Oakland Press reports that the Chair of the Oakland County Commission, Dave Woodward, will also be running for the Executive position. Woodward told Oakland County Times, however, that he has not made any announcement.  He said that a statement on the matter would be forthcoming.  This article will be updated if there is more information to add.
The seat is currently held by Republican L. Brooks Patterson who was elected in 1992. Patterson has not yet said if he will be seeking another term.
