Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Royal Oak

Royal Oak, MI-  A 21-year-old Bloomfield Hills man was struck by an Amtrak train in Royal Oak early Saturday morning. On February 23, 2019, at approximately 1:17 a.m., Royal Oak officers and paramedics responded to the area of Fifth Street and Center after receiving 911 calls of a pedestrian struck by a train.
Preliminary investigation determined a group of men disregarded the pedestrian railroad barricade as an Amtrak train was approaching the area. As the group ran across the tracks, the victim lost his footing and was struck.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Beaumont Hospital however he succumbed to his injuries later in the morning. The other subjects were not injured. The Royal Oak Police Department in conjunction with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team and CN Railroad Police are investigating. Investigators are working to determine if alcohol played a role in the incident.
