Explore: Lakeshore Park in Novi
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 4, 2019)
Novi, MI- Even in dreary winter weather, parks like Lakeshore Park in Novi have plenty to delight the senses.  Located at 301 S. Lake Street, Lakeshore Park boasts two kids’ play areas as well as trails for hiking and mountain bikes.
The trails lead back to the Walled Lake Branch of the Rouge River, with wooden pathways over the water that are covered with names and inspirational phrases like “flower power” and “not all those who wander are lost.”
The paths for pedestrians and bicyclists are clearly marked, so riders can fly through the rolling terrain with ease.
This time of year there is a lot of mud, and the most colorful sights are growths of moss, mushrooms, and lichen that grow on the slumbering trees and decaying matter on the forest floor.
The park is about to undergo major renovations in 2019, with a new community center in the works, as well as upgrades to the beach.  There are no pavilion rentals being accepted, and residents can expect closures through the year as the work takes place.  That means we’ll be back after the renovations are through to give an update.  In the meantime, this is a nice quiet place for some exercise and enjoying nature.
Dogs are allowed in the park on a six foot leash, but are not allowed in the beach area.
