Smiles and Sunshine at Ferndale Holiday Ice Festival
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 9, 2018)
Ferndale, MI – Lovely weather and a team of dedicated volunteers made the Downtown Ferndale Holiday Ice Festival a memorable one. The annual event features ice sculptures in front of local businesses and visits with Santa Claus. Kids were also able to make holiday cards to send to troops overseas and veterans in the area. And there was a hayride through the Downtown.
The event is sponsored by Cregger Plumbing along with other businesses as a way to bring the community together in the bustling downtown.  Among the carvings was a rendition of the former Federal’s Department Store that used to be where Rust Belt Market is today.  Another that drew attention was the “deconstructed ice sculpture” in front of Pop’s for Italian, which was done in jest since restaurant management missed the bandwagon to order one. Champion ice carver Tajana Rauka of Plymouth and her team created the rest, and even did live demonstrations throughout the day.
