Lane Closures Near Great Lakes Crossing Continue, RCOC Suggests Joslyn Road Exit
(Road Commission for Oakland County, Nov. 21, 2018)
Orion Township, MI — The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) construction work on Baldwin Road from just north of Brown Road to Gregory Road in Orion Township will continue until late fall, which means the current lane closures from the I-75/Baldwin interchange north through Brown road will remain in place during the early part of the busy holiday shopping season, including for “Black Friday” (Nov. 23).
Weather and the September contractor lockout of the Operating Engineers union pushed the full opening of the road back by a month. The contractor for the project, Dan’s Excavating, continues to work long hours with the goal of opening the newly constructed lanes with miscellaneous work continuing in 2019.
To best accommodate traffic, Great Lakes Crossing Mall traffic is advised to use the Joslyn Road I-75 exit. RCOC staff will be working throughout the holiday to adjust traffic signals near shopping areas on Baldwin Road.
Additionally, RCOC staff continue to communicate with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s Orion Township substation and the Auburn Hills Police Department to prepare for the holiday shopping weekend. All three entities will closely watch traffic throughout the Black Friday weekend.
“RCOC greatly appreciates the patience of motorists as road improvements continue,” observed ROCC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “This short-term inconvenience will result in a long-term road improvement that vastly improve traffic flow in the area for decades to come.”
