Reporter Food: Vegetable Manchurian and Onion Dosa at Neehee’s
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 17, 2018)
Troy, Canton, MI – I’m so glad for the recommendations for Neehee’s in Troy. This vegetarian Indian Street food restaurant has so many delicious choices, in a cheerfully bright setting, that it’s already a new favorite.
I had a lunchtime meeting with someone who also had not been there before. The wall of menu items can be very intimidating, especially if you’re new to Indian food. I could recommend checking out the menu online before going, but my honest recommendation would be to just pick a couple items that sound good and give them a try.
That’s what we did. My lunchtime companion ordered the Chole Bhature, which is a stew of spicy chickpea curry with onion, tomato and spiced gravy served with Bhature, which is fried bread.
I had no idea what dosa was, but it turned out to be a wonderful choice. I ordered Onion Dosa, which is a giant savory crepe. Not just the size of a normal plate, this crepe was the size of my forearm! It came with Sambhar and Chutneys for dipping.
We also ordered the Vegetable Manchurian to split. This is a dish made of vegetable balls tossed with ginger and garlic served with their signature Manchurian sauce. This was incredibly good also, with just a little bit of heat to the sauce.
To drink I had the Sugar Cane Juice, which is made with ginger and lime. Everything about this meal was great, including the bright yellow walls, extra tall ceilings, and large bright space full of people. I look forward to writing about more meals there.
