City of Troy Announces New Police Chief Frank Nastasi
Troy, MI – Troy City Manager Mark Miller announced that Captain Frank Nastasi has been appointed as Troy’s new Police Chief upon the November 1 retirement of Police Chief Gary Mayer.  The Troy City Council confirmed the City Manager’s appointment at the October 22 Council Meeting.
Frank Nastasi has served the City of Troy since 1996 as Police Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and currently Captain.  He is a Graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 266th Session in 2016; the Michigan Association of Police Chiefs e Police Executives and New Chiefs School in 2015; and the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command in 2013.
City Manager Mark Miller said. “Since his hire in 1996, Frank’s service to our community has been exemplary and thanks to retiring Police Chief Gary Mayer’s service for the past 40 years, the fine tradition we’ve had in place will continue under the leadership of our new Police Chief Frank Nastasi.”
Frank has been with the Troy Police Department for 22 years after serving three years as a Hazel Park Police Officer.  He was hired as Police Officer 1996-2005, promoted to Detective 2005-2009, Promoted to Sergeant 2009-2012, promoted to Lieutenant 2012-2017, and promoted to Captain 2017. Frank is committed to continuing the Troy Police Fire Department’s standard of excellence.
“We sincerely appreciate Chief Mayer’s dedication and contributions to the Troy community during the past 40 years and wish him all the best in his next phase of life.  I am very confident in Troy’s future at the Troy Police Department with Chief Nastasi at the helm,” City Manager Miller added.
“Captain Frank Nastasi is a very competent and confident police professional who will lead  in a matter that is consistent with the finest traditions of the Troy Police Department.  He will serve the community with distinction,” Retiring Police Chief Gary Mayer said.
In Frank’s years of service his Troy Police Department areas of supervision include the Operations Division and currently the Investigations & Administrative Services Division.  While over the Operations Division Frank commanded two separate patrol shifts, a Field Training Program for new recruits, the Traffic Safety Division, Evidence Technicians, K-9 Program, Community Services Section, and the Directed Patrol Unit.  Currently while commanding the Investigations & Administrative Services Division Frank oversees the Lock-up, Communications/Dispatch, Records, Property, and Research & Technology Sections, as well as assisting with the Police Department annual budget and contract negotiations.
Frank has also served as a Tactical Support Team Commander, Detective Bureau Investigator, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and volunteered as an Oakland County Crisis Response Organization member.  Frank has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Colorado State University. Affiliations and Memberships include FBI National Academy Associates- Michigan Chapter, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Oakland County Association of Chiefs of Police, Southeastern Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Troy Community Coalition Board Member, and Oakland County Crisis Response Organization.
Frank has been married to Lisa for 24 years, and they have three children (a girl and two boys) ages 15, 17 and 20.
