Madison Heights Police On Lookout for Unauthorized Curb Painter
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 4, 2018)
Madison Heights, MI- Madison Heights have a message for a solicitor that’s left a note on residences asking for $15 to paint house numbers on the curbs – don’t.
Thursday the department used their Facebook page to warn residents about the solicitation and to ask for help identifying the subject. Their post said “Madison Heights residents have reported receiving this pamphlet as a solicitation to paint their address on the curb in front of their house. The person soliciting this service has not applied for a permit to conduct door-to-door business and thus has not been vetted by the Madison Heights Police Department or any other City department. If this person was to apply for a permit, they would be denied, as the curb is City property. We ask that you contact the police department if you witness him or her conducting their business in your neighborhood. (248-585-2100)”
The note is unsigned by claims to be from someone “Endorsed by Retired St. Clair Shores Police Lieutenant Gary Sibears.” It says they are raising fund’s for their niece’s tuition expenses, and instructs those interested to leave the note taped to their door where they can see it when they come around the next day. The note also claims a three year guarantee, but gives no information on who to contact should a problem occur.
Response to the police post has been mixed, with some residents stating they wanted the service.
