Reporter Food: Portabella & Mixed Sweet Peppers Po’ Boy at Howe’s Bayou
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 20, 2018)
Ferndale, MI – Sometimes it can be hard to find an alternative to the meaty burgers and chicken sandwiches that flood the restaurant scene.  But Howe’s Bayou at 22848 Woodward in Downtown Ferndale has a fantastic meat-free sandwich – the Portabella and Mixed Sweet Peppers Po’ Boy.
Imagine the mix of hearty portabella mushrooms sautéed with onions and green and red peppers, stuffed along with the subtly tangy Southern slaw into a French loaf.  It’s served with house-made potato chips, but that can be upgraded to any number of delicious side items.  Howe’s offers red beans and rice, collard greens, butter beans, sweet potato fries, southern slaw, garlic smashed potatoes, and dirty rice.  And, of course they have amazingly good macaroni and cheese. That’s what I had.
Howe’s Bayou is a great place with a friendly atmosphere. They’ve also been one of our longest sponsors, being with Oakland County Times since 2009.  Find out more about Howes Bayou at https://howesbayouferndale.net/
