Reporter Food: White Castle’s New Vegetarian Impossible Burger Sliders
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 13, 2018)
Ferndale, Troy, Pontiac, Southfield, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Farmington Hills, MI – Yesterday White Castle rolled out their newest, and much-anticipated, creation – the Impossible Burger slider.  This plant-based burger has a similar texture and taste to real beef, but is made with vegetarian ingredients including soy.
Of course, as a devoted “Craver” I had to give this a try.  I treated myself to two and was very full. The patties are thicker than the traditional beef sliders, and though the flavor was similar it did not have the same lingering taste that the greasier beef sliders have.
White Castle locations have a separate grill just for the Impossible Burger so it doesn’t touch surfaces where the beef sliders are made.  Both are steam-grilled and topped with deliciously steamed onions. The sliders also come with pickles and an option for “everything” sauce, which is a mix of mustard and ketchup.
For this Reporter Food taste adventure, I also got an original slider with cheese for comparison, and a side of onion chips.  The onion chips were crispy and good as always, and of course the original slider was warming to my heart since White Castle has been a family favorite for decades.
